When you turn on a light...
When you turn on a light, a TV or your computer you are using electricity. Canadians call electricity, hydro, but in reality much of the power generated in Canada is not from hydro and it is generated by burning fossil fuels. Even the electricity in hydro-dominant provinces, like BC result in carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.
What can you do about it? Use less and offset the rest. You can reduce emissions by using less energy. But it is nearly impossible to be completely carbon neutral. By investing in carbon offsets to reduce emissions elsewhere, you can negate the impact of your own emissions. Clean energy projects that reduce emissions are funded by carbon offsets.
